The Kiviuq has landed in Qikiqtarjuaq for the final leg of its exploratory fishery. After leaving Greenland where the vessel refueled and had some maintenance work done, and after jogging out some bad weather along the way, they are hoping to offload some supplies today. Once all the supplies are offloaded in Qikiqtarjuaq, AFA will have officially completed the 2015 supply delivery to the four communities.
While in Qikiqtarjuaq, the Kiviuq will be picking up moorings to do work with OTN (Ocean Tracking Network) scientists in Cumberland Sound. After completing that work, the Kiviuq will head back to Qikiqtarjuaq to pick up Marine Institute scientists and start a new exploratory fishery involving specially designed pots which are used to establish an environmentally friendly way of fishing in the area. We look forward to the outcome of this test fishery.
